Here are a few of my favorite corsets from 2009!

A custom order for a wicked cool client. Heavy duty busk, stripe suiting fabric with grey bone casings and binding, double back fan-lacing.

Another neato custom order. The base fashion fabric was taken from the client's favorite shirt [which was giving out at the seams], with iridescent pink/blue dupioni for the bone casings and binding. I used part of the original pocket to make a little interior pocket. Also with purple grommets, and a pink/blue iridescent silk ribbon.

A corset that has been rolling around in my head for well over a year before I got the chance to make it. Super soft ivory and blue lace on top of ivory silk dupioni. Antique gold grommets in front and back.

Purple silk dupioni that I originally made for myself, but it doesn't match my blue hair, haha. This year I fell in love with heavy duty busks. I want to use them all the time.

I just loved this pinstripe, and thought it could use some lapels.

Now I seem to be having technical issues, so part 2 will come along later. There might even be men's tailoring!

Seriously, 51 weeks with no update? Time goes fast.

So I haven't completely disappeared from the world, just the internet. Not such a bad thing, other than the year+ backlog of projects to post.

Let's start with something pretty, shall we?

The always stunning Miss Revel and I were able to collaborate earlier this year. The results, well, what can I say? So lovely!

Cybernetic Saint: Our Lady of Conductivity

More photographic awesome, and notes on what I've been up to for the past year, under the cut.

The outfit is as follows:

-Velvet neck "corset" with satin lining, spiral and flat steel boning, grommets in back, and hand beaded detail
-Custom dyed blue silk dupioni corset [three layer construction with waist tape] with a mix of internal and external bone casings [all flat steel boning in this one, I think], and side lacing detail
-Long black cotton skirt with gathered mesh train

What I've been up to:

-Making corsets, of course. Many many bridal corsets [I still get the coolest brides!] which was how the lack of posting began. Wouldn't be so nice of me to post someone's attire before the date, now would it. Also, non-bridal corsets. No excuse for not posting those, other than the prevalence of black satin overbusts.

-Not doing photoshoots, cause I'm lame. Just haven't had the time, or the non-custom stock to shoot with [no time to make non-custom stock, arg!] Maybe the shoot bug will bite me again soon.

-Working on projects I can't post photos of! Oooo, secret! Not really. Film & tv projects. Eventually, my dear friends list will get inundated with boring photos [and some not so boring] and screenshots galore. If you happen to have Starz, and watch Crash, you may have seen some of my corsets in the Halloween episode. Wooo, big deal! I know, silly. They're probably on screen for 0.2 seconds, but I think it's neato. Haven't seen the episode yet.

-Making more corsets. And making things that are not corsets. Then playing some video games. Then more corsets. And bras. And tie-side panties. Then some corsets. The end!

Purple & black corset, bit of an experiment. Soft purple knit with black mesh overlay skirt.

Tiny hat! I originally made this hat as a little joke to myself. I don't really like little hats, they tend to be a bit too EGL for my taste [generally, Gothic Lolita & I don't get along so well. Nothing personal, I just don't get it.] But I made [well, purchased the base and covered it with various fabric-type things] this one anyway, and actually like it. Who knew!
But the photo, I *adore* the photo.

I went to Los Angeles a few weeks ago for work purposes [ahem, fabric buying is hard work, I tell ya] and was lucky enough to be able to schedule a shoot with Taslimur the night before I came back to Albuquerque. Incredible shoot at an incredible location with incredible people. I had such a wonderful experience.

First two outfits are a continuation of the black&white dye series that has been rumbling around in my head for some time. You probably recognize the jacket and underbust corset from previous shoots. The skirt and overbust corset are new additions, being repeatedly dyed and bleached [in my abused bathtub] the week before. I <3 dye.

The next outfits may also look familiar [or at least parts of them]. Kelly was wearing the Militant Scout fan-lacing underbust with a skirt that was formerly a tent, and has quite a story.

I bought that tent for $29 at Big Lots in 1999.

In the summer of that year it housed myself and 3 of my bandmates at Mesa Verde, CO before hitting the road for a month in a duffel bag. It's seen TX, AZ, NM, CO, UT, WY, CA, OR, WA, and Ontario Canada, and has housed dozens of friends, a couple of foes, countless quantities of drugs and liquor, firearms, and more. It was my means of protection on a 3 week survival trip to Latier/Cabresto above Red River.

The first rainflap was set on fire by a guy named Andy Lafree who doused it in kerosene during a camping trip then preceeded to spill a smouldering bong on it. We felt lucky the tent didn't go up as well. The rear quarter of the main sleeping area has 2 7.62x39 bullet holes in it from an AKM-47 on the first time I ever went camping with firearms and neglected to choose a good backstop for our impromptu shooting range.

In recent history, that tent went with Christina, Elizabeth, Fro, and I to the Jemez Falls, to Jemez ridge with Colin, Steen, and Charlotte, and back home where I gifted it to Charlotte who gave it in turn to Kent.

The "Red Violin" of tents, now apparently a dress!

Indeed! I thought it would make a rather neato skirt. Now with cords and toggles [for length & fluff adjustment] where the poles once went.

Jessie wore the pixel camo underbust corset [with new gianormous zipper, size 9 for any zip connoisseurs out there] and a skirt made from parts of a tactical jumpsuit that looked a bit like that, but with more pockets.

I finally go the chance to look through the disk today and found a lovely surprise. I stood in for a light test at the shoot, and Tas made a slight alteration to my cranium size. I had to make it into a macro. Most likely only funny to me. =]

Heh.

Additional updates coming with time. I can sew for days with no problem, but sitting in front of a computer for a few hours kills my brain [and back!]. I have sooooo much to post. I can't believe it's almost October already!

A month with no update! Bad Kateness. But I have so many photos to show you!

From a shoot with master light stealer Elliott Raymond and model Ladonna.

Bloody medical corset <3<3

Silver & black brocade two-layer underbust with giant gray taffeta skirt.

Red silk & patent leather overbust, as seen here before.

My steampunk-inspired corset. Beige twill fashion fabric with tea-dyed twill bone casings and brown leather trim. And a big brass hook, just because.

"Antiqued" corset. It started out stark white before I attacked it with paint and sandpaper. I wanted it to look old, but still be structurally stable. I adore the look of antique corsets, but it hurts my soul a little to see them worn.

Hope you like them, because I love these photos!

More updates later on, with recent corsets, more shoots, necklaces continued, and fun reconstructions!

P.S. I freaking love Portland! I had a blast while there and can't wait to return.

Red buttersoft leather corset with a necklace I made. All I want to do lately is make these necklaces! <3 them.

A fun experiment with color. =] & fan lacing. =]

Leather. Mmmm. Just for my friends over at Peta. A strange construction, due to the treatment of the leather [glossy black on one side, sueded red on the other.]

OMG b00bz. I have awesome customers.

Really interesting corset for a male customer, made to accommodate two different sized breast forms, laces in the front, zips in the back.

Just for fun. =] I like frogs too much, maybe?

Love the way this corset shimmers, like some kind of brocade mercury.

Last, but certainly not least, what I affectionately named the "Barbie" corset, due to it's pinkness. Totally lined in the pink color seen on the binding. I must remind myself that working with color can be fun. =]

Vanessa in the 2 layer camo corset with giant cam buckles in the front, and grey taffeta overskirt that has a 4 gauge hook & a buncha D-rings on the back for adjustable train length.

Dork! But I almost blend in. Just not quite.

Red silk brocade corset [made a long time ago] that happens to be up on Etsy, should anyone be interested. =]

So good for me to do fun shoots like these. Lately I'm working a lot, but feeling a lack of creating. Stuff like this helps. =] Always great to shoot with Miss V.

My favorite new corset! Red/black silk with patent leather bone casings & binding. Gives me a 4" waist reduction quite comfortably! I've become rather obsessed with patent leather, but acquiring it can be rather troublesome. =[ But yesterday I unwrapped a new side of brown patent, so that should be much fun.

This photo shows the color better. Silly red wall messing up my color balance.

So, after having a seller's account since September, I have finally listed some stuff on Etsy!
For those not familiar with Etsy, it is "Your place to buy and sell all things handmade." The features of the site are really interesting, from Favorites, to picking items by color, to the forums, this site is really a cool place. I keep finding wonderful items I never knew existed.
klink, I think you should set up a shop for buttons over there!

There are all sorts of things from past shows, a couple of older corsets, T-shirt reconstructions, and random things I made for no reason. Most of the prices are much less that what I would charge for custom work, so go grab a deal!

Yet another case of "I'm glad this isn't my size, or it would mysteriously disappear."
This one was a true collaboration between design minds. Moni came to me with the desire for a dress to wear to a few special events coming up. I came up with a very simple red dress, with snap tape all over so that the hem can be raised in all sorts of different ways. Versatility & asymmetry goodness. After a preliminary fitting, Moni really took it to another level with the ideas of tattered black lace and all sorts of deconstructed details within the front & back panels. I'm so very pleased with the outcome. She really encouraged me to get out of the simplicity box that I tend to be stuck in. We call it a MoniTrix Design. =]

Perverse Fixation Frankenshirts

Myself as American McGee's Alice, Acacia in her custom Harley Quinn Corset [vinyl catsuit by Miss K-Sha!], and Brad in his custom worsted wool pinstripe & patent leather corset with holey shirt.

Emiwy So Pwetty, Cherry Automatic [and her Can't Stop the Ska Corset], & me.

Other recent[ish] stuff:

Yummy dyed silk strap corset with matching neck piece & lotsa garters!

Black & pink stripe fabric overbust with ribbon detail & boned floating modesty panel. Creates an *amazing* shape on the client.

Custom boned & lined garter belt. Simple, but I love it.

A very fun commission! Way too tiny for me to fit on one of my forms [21" waist], hence the less-than-fantastic pics. I'm absurdly in love with this fabric. & fan lacing. =]

An experiment with drastic bustlines & a very short center front. This little guy has the potential to create some serious cleavage. & leopard print satin lining that makes me smile.

I <3 this velvet. Not so much the satin I used for the casings, however. Ah well.

A challenging commission, detachable bra cups! Along with a more flexible base fabric, and bias-cut sides for extra motility.

Mmmm velvet.

Mmmm fan lacing. So you guys have seen this one before, oh well. Deal.

You can't stop the brocade. Or the ska.

A custom piece for a shoot with afisherking. This was for "Fall" or "Autumn" if you're into the silent n action.

Another experiment. This time with the patent vinyl from MJ Trends. Although better than apparel weight vinyl for corsets, it still isn't what I'm looking for. & I'm not yet pleased with my construction involving vinyl & corsets. Someday they will be available, just not quite yet.

You've seen this one as well. Although it looks better on tequiladaniels than it does on Olivia, Miss Dressform size 6.
